What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government program designed to make essential dental services more affordable and accessible for eligible Canadians who do not have private dental insurance.
Launched by the Government of Canada, the CDCP helps cover a portion of dental treatment costs — from routine cleanings and exams to fillings, extractions, and dentures — based on your family's net income.
At Glenwood Dental Care, we believe every West Edmonton family deserves access to quality oral health care. That's why we're proud to accept the CDCP and help our patients make the most of their coverage.
Who can qualify for the CDCP?
To qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan, you must meet all of the following criteria. Applications for the 2026–2027 benefit year are currently open.
No private dental insurance
You do not have access to private dental insurance or coverage through an employer, school, or other group plan.
Income requirement
Your adjusted family net income is below $90,000 per year. The amount the plan covers varies by income level.
Tax filing and residency
You are a resident of Canada for tax purposes and have filed your most recent tax return.
Available to all ages
The CDCP is available to eligible Canadians of all ages — including children, adults, and seniors.
Already receiving government dental benefits? You may still qualify for the CDCP. Coverage can be coordinated between plans to reduce gaps. Contact our team and we'll help you sort it out before your appointment.
What dental services may be covered?
The CDCP covers a broad range of oral health services at registered dental clinics like Glenwood Dental Care. Some services may require pre-approval — our team will review your coverage with you in advance so there are no surprises.

Fillings for cavities, crowns, root canal therapy, and other treatments that repair and restore damaged or decayed teeth.
Extractions
Simple and surgical tooth extractions, including wisdom teeth, when clinically necessary for your oral health.
Dentures and prosthetics
Complete and partial dentures, and other prosthetic services to replace missing teeth and restore your smile’s function.
Assessments and consultations
Comprehensive oral health assessments, diagnostic imaging, and treatment planning consultations. Both Dr. Hussain and Dr. Medina proudly accept the CDCP.
Periodontal care
Gum disease treatments including scaling and root planing to address periodontal health and prevent tooth loss.
Some services may require pre-authorization. Coverage amounts vary based on your income level. For the complete official list of covered services, visit Canada.ca/dental.
How much of the cost does CDCP cover?
The CDCP is not a free program — you may pay a portion of treatment costs depending on your family's adjusted net income. Here is how the cost-sharing works:
| Adjusted Family Net Income | Government Covers | Your Co-payment |
|---|---|---|
| Under $70,000 | 100% | $0 co-payment |
| $70,000 – $79,999 | 60% | 40% co-payment |
| $80,000 – $89,999 | 40% | 60% co-payment |
| $90,000 or more | Not eligible for the CDCP | — |
